Anti-Essentialist Culture Conception for Better Intercultural Language Teaching in EFL Contexts

Culture is a crucial facet in Teaching English as Foreign Language. (TEFL) Hence, we shall this paper discuss the theories underpinning concept and how can utilize these epistemological ontological understandings to promote TEFL field higher education task. Henceforward, have answered following question: How move from essentialist view of culture non-essentialist culture, why it essential do so 21st century Language context? To answer proposed question, discussed dichotomy both frameworks affect intercultural language teaching (ILT) differently. In regard, aim help EFL policymakers, teachers, students alike shift their attention towards merits adopting understanding ILT. First, article covers understand different anthropological perspectives. Second, relied on Byram’s Model (1997) critiques demonstrate misunderstanding be damaging. Third, after critically discussing relevant literature, recommended an anti-culturalist perspective context improve ILT experience. This concludes with recommendations for ELT policymakers teachers alike. The proposals mainly focus shifting non-culturalist approach culture.
